Exposure to asbestos at ground zero

In September 2001, terrorists twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City under attack. At the end of thousands of lives were lost, as the towers collapsed quickly. When the towers collapsed, she had nothing but rubble, dirt and dust. To this disaster response, rescue teams formed quickly from police officers, to save firefighters and volunteers who worked, as many lives as possible after the attacks. Unfortunately, while these people heroically behavior, they were her own life due to the deadly poisons mean, published in the air, when the towers collapsed.

The twin towers and a large part of the World Trade Center was built using at the end of the golden age of asbestos. The original plans for the towers, developed by the port authority of New York, hand called the bottom 40 floors of the buildings are fire protection with 5000 tons of asbestos. This was designed to support the building. Fortunately, as the health risks associated with asbestos more commonly known, the builders, the building with less asbestos as the original plans decided needed. When the buildings were completed, more than half of the asbestos, which originally was replaced with safer materials.

If the asbestos in buildings reduced the towers, despite the removal of a large part, thousands of people still asbestos and other air were exposed to poisons. The exposed persons are those, which survived the collapse, first responders, in which close set, adjusted inhabitants, and even workers left to help the debris behind it. In addition, as the fire thousands of heavy metals burn zero on the ground in the months after the first collapse and barium, mercury and asbestos in the atmosphere released cancer-causing substances.

After the attacks, symptoms of respiratory disease suffer from countless people who were exposed to the pollution. These diseases include difficulty breathing, coughing, asthma, and even lung cancer and mesothelioma. The years gone are, become more evident, that more people than originally were infected conceived.

The New York State Department of health published a study at the beginning of the year 2008, which detailed the health effects of since 2001, exposed toxins. Since the attacks are about 200 of those that first the pollutants at ground zero face had died. The 200 people who died, 55 of workers were victims of lung cancer. In addition at least 62% of people who are exposed to dust and dirt, after the attacks have reported trouble breathing and other respiratory complications.
