Government regulation will remove 2200 tons of Pollution each year

Washington- Government Regulation removes 2200 tons of Pollution a year.

A regulation of the Clean Air Act between agricultural processor Bunge North America Inc. and several Midwestern States removes 2200 tons of pollution per year of our atmosphere.

The settlement of $ 13.9 million includes 12 plants in 8 States of Louisiana to Illinois.

A misconception about agricultural processing facilities, it is that they are not significant sources of pollution because when we think of industrial pollution often involves industries of coal and oil.

To extract the soybean oil or other organic sources, companies often use harsh solvents that are then released into the air. The released chemicals are mainly harmful organic compounds that can contaminate groundwater or enter into the air causing problems for people with respiratory ailments.

"This agreement is evidence of the continued commitment of the Bush Administration to ensure compliance with the Clean Air Act.". "EPA expects companies to act responsibly and within the law when it comes to protect public health and the environment".

Bush and Republican lawmakers who had supported a gutting the Clean Air Act are now trying to use it as evidence of their commitment to the environment, an issue that often ranks low for their party.

The Government argued that Bunge has not obtained permits or approval of amendments to their soybean processing plants and these changes have led to a significant increase in pollution. This case follows similar establishments with other processors including Cargill Inc. and Archer Daniels Midland.

"This settlement?will reduce the formation of ground-level ozone, a pollutant that irritates the lungs and exacerbates the diseases such as asthma,", said Sue Ellen Wooldridge, Deputy Prosecutor General of the environment and natural resources Division of the Department of Justice.

Bunge is an agribusiness based in St. Louis, MO multiple States and manages us operations for multinational Bunge Limited. In addition to pay a fine and modernization of its production facilities, the company also agreed to finance projects of public works for each of the 8 States who brought an action of the company. They include the upgrade of school buses, of the reduction of asbestos schools and funding for conservation projects.
